There are just a few things that we want to transparently share before you apply for an internship with us. Please read carefully through this short sections and answer the questions after it.
Working for a new startup
The project NIUsleep is just 6 months old and our startup NIUmetrics SB only about 2 months. While we were able to secure some early stage funding, we are unable to pay a salary to any project member (so also not us). We work on this project as a passion and see it as an exciting opportunity with potential in the future. If the internship goes well, we would like to consider you permanently joining the team. But we can’t make any promises and want to be up front about this. Keep in mind that startups are a fast moving field with fast growth and fast decay. Also, we don’t recommend taking this internship for compulsory full time internships in your degree, as no member currently works full time on the project.
Work culture
Every project or company has the opportunity to define their own work culture. This defines how the team handles any challenges they might encounter. Our two main goals are tolerance and sustainability. With tolerance, we mean that we embrace everyone’s individual beliefs, perspectives, cultural backgrounds and identities. We are looking forward to your input to the project and you can therefore really have a lasting positive impact. With sustainability, we mean that we understand and reflect on the consequences of our actions. We try to act in such a way, that has the smallest negative and highest positive impact on others and the environment. No one has to be perfect, but we should be open and self reflective about our actions.
